I did my best to walk with God.
He told me to just shut up and listen.
I have lots of questions and one of the questions was
“How do I know it’s really you, I mean really you and not my conscience talking?”
He told me to shut up and listen.
I didn’t shut up.
I asked, “It’s true that you’re really everywhere, huh?”
He said, “Yes, it’s true.”
“Even in an ordinary fortune cookie?”
I shut up and walked.
He walked with me.
Then he answered, “Even in an ordinary fortune cookie.”
I like the short lines and back n’ forth with you and God. I like the silences and the breaking silences. I appreciated both the humor and seriousness that’s wrapped up in the fortune cookie.

Thank you! I didn’t think about it being wrapped up like a fortune cookie. 😊

Dear Alice,
I think He spoke to me in my fortune cookie last night. It said, “Mistakes are the portals of discovery,” to which I responded, “Well, ain’t that the truth…”
I am glad that you talk to him candidly and constantly. It is one of the few ways in which I endeavor to maintain my sanity. He keeps me from losing it when the world seems completely upside down.
Thank you for sharing your conversation – it is most heartwarming!
Sincerely,
~Carla Michelle

The first thought that popped into my head while reading your post was a text connection–a book by Richard Bach, “Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah”. And then another, “Untamed”, which I know you’ve read, that bit about shutting up to feel the Knowing and let it fill you and nudge you in the way you should go. As the Devil is in the details, so can God be present, if one is only willing to pause and take notice.

What??? It reminded you of Untamed? Whoa, thanks! I’ll need to re-read it. Although my book is bleeding yellow highlighter all over it, I felt I rushed through parts of it then took too many long breaks between chapters. I read it at the end of summer, beginning of the school year transition and lost focus too much. Spring break is coming, so I’ll be picking it up again. I’ll need to check into the other title as well.
