Lesson Block

Observation tomorrow
poetry stations
but only three
there's this thing called
time
you see
it robs you
of every
good intention
and test prep
wrecks havoc
as it tornados
its way through
schedules
leaving intellectual
debris behind
poor kids grasp
for consistency
poor teachers,
exasperated,
know what works, yet
unable to get
it
all
done
and here I am
arguing with
imposter syndrome
struggling
to create an engaging
lesson
because the kids
are
done

  1. yes, it’s the season of get it done now test prep and observations as well.as the time of year when all good children’s thoughts are mired in soft breezes and pussy willows. Good luck focusing on what worksvand what they need if only for a few moments

  2. This poem is the real reason I love poetry. Your carefully chosen words give powerful impact to an idea while simultaneously expressing a sense of urgency through brevity.

Thank you for capturing this experience so beautifully.

  3. I especially love these lines: “test prep/wrecks havoc/as it tornados/its way through/schedules/leaving intellectual/debris behind” You are so gifted at packing so much into the perfect amount of words. Hope the evaluation went well and you were seen as the amazing teacher you clearly are!
