Is the day after
a year long party
where we sit back
looking at unwrapped
gifts
expectations
ups and downs
laughter
frustration
tears
quiet moments
and noisy ones
bubbles fizzing,
sipping life's goodness
A toast to
presence!
A big toast to presence! The last couple of years have made me appreciate the gifts and tears and all of it– the presence. Sounds like it’s the same for you!
Yes, I’ve always known presence is importance, but it seems to hit me harder every year. It’s a bid for attention that stops me in my tracks when I feel I’m just going through the motions. It’s easy to go into auto-pilot, but not so good to stay there.
My OLW for the quarter–conscious–mirrors your call to pay attention to now. I think for us teacher-types, this is especially hard, because we are always in planning mode at work. Thanks for the reminder to pause and be.
I struggle to just take a deep breath and enjoy where I am. Everything seems to be done on frenetic mode and I’m ready to part ways with that aspect of my life.

Love how your poem begins with unwrapped gifts (presents) and ends with a toast to presence! A lovely play on words.

Thank you, Maureen. Unfortunately, the essence of what I wanted to write escaped me, but this little nugget remained with me.

May we have the presence to stay in the present. Like your word play.
